Restaurateur creates 20 jobs with new Belfast venue

By Margaret Canning

A restaurant specialising in Eastern Mediterranean food has opened in Belfast with the creation of 20 new jobs.

Husband and wife team Tony and Andrea O'Neill already operate nearby Italian restaurant Coppi at St Anne's Square in the Cathedral Quarter.

Now they're embarking on new venture, Buba - a move revealed by the Belfast Telegraph last year.

Mr O' Neill said: "We want to keep pushing the envelope by introducing not just Greek and Turkish influences, but also the exciting and perhaps less familiar spices and recipes of North Africa and the Middle East."

Mr O'Neill formerly worked in the Merchant Hotel as executive chef, and went into business with Sam Spain in 2011.

Their first opening was Il Pirata in east Belfast. That is now run by Mr Spain.

Mr O'Neill also opened Bartali in Portaballintrae on the north coast, though that venue has shut.
