The deputy chief executive of Translink has been appointed as chairman of the Institute of Directors (IoD) in Northern Ireland.

Gordon Milligan, who will take over from Ian Sheppard, said he will be working to ensure Northern Ireland's "unique position" in the Brexit debate is highlighted.

Mr Milligan joined Translink in 2009 and has held executive roles at Bombardier, Nortel Networks and Dunbia. He has also held positions on the IoD's NI committee, as well as chairing the professional development committee.

He thanked Mr Sheppard for his work over the past two years in a "very uncertain political landscape".
