Grant Thornton's wealth advisory business and legal firm McKinty and Wright have been acquired in separate deals confirmed in Belfast yesterday.

Standard Life Aberdeen's 1825 division's swoop for the Grant Thornton business represents its eighth and largest acquisition since the financial planning and advice firm was launched four years ago.

The move affects 16 people based at Grant Thornton and comes just three months after 1825 acquired BDO Northern Ireland's wealth management division, which employs 12 people in Belfast.

Grant Thornton's UK chief executive Dave Dunckley said the group's increased focus on audit, tax and advisory services meant its wealth advisory division would be best served by a business focused solely on the financial advice market.

Meanwhile, DAC Beachcroft, which has 60 law offices, opened its first base in Northern Ireland yesterday after acquiring Belfast insurance specialist McKinty and Wright Solicitors. The move sees 17 solicitors including six partners based at Montgomery House formally join the legal group's 2,300 strong global workforce.
