UK ad sector 'resilient' as spend hits record high
Spending on UK advertising reached a record £22.2bn last year in an indication of the "strength and resilience" of the sector, figures show.
Spending grew by 4.6% in 2017, the eighth consecutive year of market growth, according to the Advertising Association Expenditure Report.
The final three months of last year saw spending grow by 6.2% to top £6bn over a quarter for the first time.
Growth continued to be driven by the internet, where spending was up by 14.3% over the year.
Stephen Woodford, chief executive at the Advertising Association, said: "These very impressive adspend figures demonstrate the strength and resilience of the UK advertising industry over the course of 2017.
"The results also reflect wider trends within the UK economy over recent months, with inflation at its lowest for a year, reducing pressure on real wages."
