A housing association has started an £8.4m project to build 53 homes in south Belfast.

Co Tyrone contractor Connolly & Fee has been appointed by Choice housing association for the project in Upper Dunmurry Lane, due to finish in 2021.

The Belvedere development for social housing tenants is designed by McGirr Architects and will accommodate 193 people.

There will be a combination of two and three-bedroom homes and two-bedroom apartments.

It will also include two wheelchair accessible bungalows.

Michael McDonnell, chief executive of Choice, said: "This important project will create 53 high-quality homes for tenants and it is another clear commitment from Choice to deliver social housing in areas of need.

"Our project at Belvedere is good news, particularly for those who are on the social housing waiting list, and will help bring a new vibrancy to the Dunmurry Road area.
