Tech stars to shine in Belfast 'Mashup' event
Tonight will be the third Friday Night Mashup. The Mashup is a quarterly event series that aims to connect, engage and inspire tech talent.
Ultimately we hope to act as a launch pad for local companies seeking to make an impact in export markets in the US and Europe.
Wider strategies like the Digital Action Plan published by Momentum this week are vital. But there is a real appetite for a grassroots forum to celebrate what our startups are doing, to provide them with profile, platform and opportunity without adding process to their workload.
The Mashup also aims to bring in the very best people from outside the region to share their insights. Speakers this evening include:
- Jon Vanhala is former Head of Digital & New Business at Universal Music and has worked with some of world’s top music talent, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nikki Minaj and Rihanna;
- Wilson Kriegel is previously executive at OMGPOP which sold to Zynga, March 2012 for $200 million and has been part of six start-ups (1 IPO; 3 sold; 2 operating);
- Matthew Gonzales is advisor to appbackr, a platform with more than 200 million users worldwide and has eight years of startup experience working in Silicon Valley;
- and Andy McCartney is a former Technical Director at Microsoft, CTO and founder at Belfast-based theAppBuilder.
We also couldn't put together an event of this type without the support of companies like: Intel; Concentrix; Titanic Quarter; T13; QUB SU; Propel; Invest NI; Cleaver Fulton Rankin; Hays; NISP; and The Belfast Telegraph.
Despite moving the event to a larger venue to accommodate more people, we sold out within just a few days. So if you weren't able to come along this time – or if you bumped us for the Robbie Williams concert - come find us on our website and @FNMashup. Also, check out Mashup TV on Youtube for more info about our events and who we work with. If you want to pitch, or get general help, tips, advice - get in touch. That's what we're here for.
Geoff McGimpsey is an organiser with Friday Night Mashup and is owner of McGimpsey Communications, a communications company based at NI Science Park which specialises in working with tech sector clients.
