Scores of people queued up in Belfast for the launch of the new Apple iPhone.

The company's new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were released for sale this morning, and the first to get it in the UK were those that had waited outside shops to get hold of the Apple store’s allocation.

Though many models of the phone have sold out online, Apple made some available in their retail outlets to those that were first in the queue.

There were fears that Apple’s blockbuster launches had come to an end with the release of the Apple Watch earlier in the year, which was launched in a less high-profile ceremony and was initially only available to buy online.

But the event featured the same long queues and excitement of previous years, with Apple Store employees applauding and high-fiving people as they entered.

The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, feature the same external look as the previous model but pack in new features like a vastly improved camera and a pressure-sensitive “3D Touch” display.

Many in Belfast - similar to thousands around the world - queued up at the Apple store in Victoria Square to be among the first to get their hands on the new phone.
