We try out six of the best dashboard gadgets for you

Hit the road this summer with these dashcams and satnavs, which will all set you back just under £100. Polly Weeks reports.

Nextbase 212, £62 from £69.99,

Nextbase have led the field in dashcams over the last few years and this model is another example of why they're so well respected. It has a 140 viewing angle, records in HD and, most importantly, is quite easy to set up and use. It's even easy to mount - it just slots into place thanks to the Click & Go Powered Magnetic Car Mounting system. It's also got night vision and is small enough to not get in your way.

THINKWARE Dashcam X330, £99,

Just sneaking in under the £100 limit is the new THINKWARE model. In addition to having a 140-degree viewing angle and 2.7-inch LCD screen, it's got some really excellent extras. Connect it to the GPS antenna and you'll receive updates when approaching speed cameras. It also comes with Time Lapse technology, alongside a Parking Surveillance mode.

Cobra CDR 835 Drive HD Dashcam, £79.99,

If having a wide viewing angle is the most important factor when it comes to buying a dashcam, this is the one for you. The lens reaches 160 degrees and records in full HD. It saves to an 8GB micro SD memory card (it automatically overwrites old clips when full) and there's also a 'parking mode' to protect your car even when you're not in it.

RAC 04 Plug and Play Dashcam, £59.99,

In addition to getting change from £60 with this model, you'll also get a very good camera. It records in HD, has a 120-degree field of view and the 8GB Micro SD card provides plenty of space to store your clips. You can of course wipe them off easily enough, freeing up room on the card. It's easy to set up and takes just an hour to fully charge.

TomTom Start 25 Full EU maps and One Year speed camera updates, £79.99,

Perhaps the biggest of the Satnav brands, if you're driving to Europe this summer, this TomTom model could be just the accessory you need. It comes with maps for all EU countries and what's more, you'll get TomTom's Lifetime European Map Updates, which means that as roads change over the years and new points of interest come along, you can keep up to date with the best routes for free. It also comes with a year's free speed camera location updates.

Maplin M220 720p Dashcam, £39.99 from £49.99,

Proving that good things come in small packages, this dinky - and cheap - dashcam ticks all the boxes. It will spring into action as soon as you turn your car on and will remain on for a few minutes after you've parked. It records to a span of 120 degrees and you get good quality video too. If required, you can easily transfer the footage onto your PC, making this a good buy if you want the security of having a dashcam, without wanting to spend extra on fancy features.
