YouTube removes porn that was hidden using Irish language

By Clare Cullen

YouTube has removed pornographic videos that were "hidden" on the site under Irish-language titles.

The videos were discovered when the roomate of an Irish-language journalist searched the site for 'scannáin' - the Irish word for film. He found a number of 'films' under this tag - all of the blue kind.

Maitíú Ó Coimín, a writer for the Irish-language news website Tuairisc, posted his findings online.

"I looked a bit further into it, and there were about 15 to 20 films of a questionable nature."

"These were real pornographic films."

YouTube said it was unaware of the content, but its staff were "quick to take action" once it was brought to their attention.

"YouTube's community guidelines clearly state that sexually explicit content is not allowed on our site," it said.

"We remove videos and channels that violate our policies when flagged for our attention".

"YouTube staff review flagged videos 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to determine whether they violate our community guidelines."
