Serving more than 600 clients, including all the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies, Craigavon-based Almac is a financially stable and privately owned company with over 2500 employees in Northern Ireland, the EU and the US.
Despite the economic slowdown in 2009, Almac has recorded an 11% increase in staff levels over the past 12 months. In September 2009 the company recruited its 2,500th member of staff. Its new North American Headquarters based in Souderton, Pennsylvania is on schedule to open as planned later this year. The £120m, 240,000 sq ft facility will house Almac’s clinical services and clinical technologies divisions as well as an extensive analytical suite.
In January, Almac’s inspirational chairman Sir Allen McClay passed away. He founded the company in 2000, buying five divisions from his former company Galen in order to keep jobs in Northern Ireland and was widely recognised as one of Northern Ireland’s leading entrepreneurs.
