Group chief executive: Cormac McCarthy
Ulster Bank provides a full range of banking and financial products and services to personal and corporate customers through its branches, ATMs, telephone and internet facilities. Ulster Bank has 92 retail branches, over 300 ATMs and a strong business franchise across the region through its branches and business centres.
Its parent company is Royal Bank of Scotland which is now 84% owned by the taxpayer following a massive bailout.
Ulster Bank made a loss of £368m for 2009 after having to set aside £649m for loans it did not expect to be paid back, mostly stemming from the property market in the Republic. CEO Cormac McCarthy declined his bonus and said the landscape remained challenging, although he was optimistic about 2010 after some pick up in the mortgage market. The bank has committed to lending £500m in new mortgages over the next 12 months.
