The Northern Ireland care division operates 75 care homes, including nine bought from the failed Southern Cross organisation, and provides nursing and residential care beds across the province with around 4,500 staff. The Northern Ireland division also manages eight homes in Wales, also rescued after Southern Cross’s demise.

The majority of the company’s care home portfolio provides permanent residence services for the frail and elderly but also includes convalescence and respite services. Many of the homes also provide specialist care and support services for people with learning difficulties, mental health problems, dementia and complex behaviours presentation, alcohol-related brain disorders and physical disabilities.

It has also developed intermediate care service initiatives working in partnership with local hospitals.

The company has an occupancy level in its homes of 90% and invests £90m in the Northern Ireland economy each year.

Its employees include professional nurses, social care workers, administrative, catering and ancillary staff.

Looking ahead to 2015, Four Seasons plans to commission newbuild facilities which will create employment in the construction and healthcare sector.

It will expand its facilities for people with dementia and alcohol-related brain disorders with new units expected to become operational in 2013/2014.
