74. Lagan Group Holdings

Chairman: Kevin Lagan

Employment: 470

Turnover: £157.5m (annualised)

Pre-tax profit: £3.2m (annualised)

Following further restructuring of the Lagan companies in August 2010, Kevin Lagan now wholly owns Lagan Group Holdings Limited.

The group has operations throughout the island of Ireland, the UK, as well as in North Western Europe. Its business comprises quarrying, bitumen, surfacing, civil engineering, waste management, cement & related products, clay products and house-building.

Despite the overall downturn, which has had a severe impact on the construction industry in particular, the business remains profitable.

The group continues to expand through organic growth and via recent acquisitions, such as the Healy Brothers quarrying and concrete business in Midleton, Cork and the Zeeland Cement business in Holland. Kevin Lagan also owns Welsh Slate, and he is the majority shareholder in the Lagan quarrying, bitumen and surfacing operations in the Republic of Ireland.
