Sainsbury’s has partnered with Deliveroo to trial pizza delivery from its stores, in a bid to take a slice of the fast-growing delivery market.

The scheme launched on Monday in five stores, marking the first time a UK supermarket has offered hot takeaways through Deliveroo.

Customers living near the branches in Cambridge; Selly Oak, Birmingham; West Hove, East Sussex; Pimlico, central London; and Hornsey in north London will find the option listed alongside local restaurants.

They will also be able to order snacks and drinks from Sainsbury’s alongside their pizzas, with a wider range of products set to be added during the pilot.

It is the latest move by a British supermarket to capitalise on demand for fast deliveries.

Morrisons and Amazon last month deepened their partnership by expanding same-day delivery of groceries to five new UK cities.

Online grocer Ocado has also ramped up its offering with the Ocado Zoom service, which aims to deliver in just one hour.
