One of Northern Ireland’s largest food retail groups is rolling out a new quick scan and pay system to help speed up shopping for its customers.

Henderson Technology has introduced Ubamarket’s mobile retail technology ‘Scan, Pay, Go’ to three Spar and Eurospar stores in Northern Ireland, in order to improve the convenience shopping experience for their customers.

The app allows customers to build shopping lists ahead of planned store visits to see what is in stock, be guided around the store and scan products as they shop.

The company says “other benefits of the end-to-end mobile shopping app include allergen and dietary alerts for every product, and sustainability information regarding the recyclability of any plastic packaging associated with each product. The technology on offer also allows for staff to be deployed elsewhere in the store, and colleagues can help replenish items and safely help customers”.

“There has never been more of a need for innovative new technology to lessen the time spent in store by the shopper, and Henderson Technology continues to be at the forefront of retail technology innovation,” Darren Nickels, retail operations director of Henderson Technology, said.

“This latest development gives our retailers another vital way of serving shoppers and making sure their store operations are as efficient and effective as they possibly can be in these challenging times.”

Will Broome, chief executive of Ubamarket, said: “We are extremely proud to announce our partnership with Henderson Technology and absolutely delighted to bring a complete and fully functioning solution to their customers that will change supermarket shopping for all.

“Convenience stores and supermarkets are currently desperate for retail tech innovation that improves the in-store shopping experience. Ubamarket and Henderson Technology can now provide shoppers with a fully revitalised and hyper-convenient experience, enabling them to visit their stores and shop more safely and efficiently. This marks a significant shift in the landscape of retail technology and in shopping on a wider scale.”

The first three stores to use the new app include Mulkern’s Eurospar at Forkhill Road, Newry, Spar at Sunnyside Street, Belfast and Eurospar Ramoan Road, Ballycastle.
