Cost of motoring accelerates by 20%

The average annual cost of running a car has soared more than 20% since April last year, it was revealed today.

A huge hike in insurance premiums and a big rise in petrol prices account for most of the increase, the survey by Sainsbury's Finance showed.

The average running cost is now £3,89 - a 21.1% rise on the cost on April 1 21.

This includes a 3.7% average increase in insurance, a 22.9% rise in fuel and a 5.4% rise in servicing costs.
