No let-up: Dacia rings in even more changes to the Duster SUV for 2019

By Paul Connolly

Dacia has unveiled powerful new engines for its all-new - and highly popular - Duster SUV model.

Revealing the UK price and spec for the 2019 Duster, Dacia also gave details of new engines for its higher end models, one of which is the most powerful engine yet fitted to a Dacia.

The new petrol powerplants offer improved performance and reduced emissions and are available across two trim levels.

The two turbo-charged 1.3-litre, four-cylinder TCe engines, will go on sale in the spring.

The lesser-powered TCe 130 unit produces 128bhp and 240Nm of torque, while the more powerful TCe 150 produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque.

They add to the Dacia’s pulling power in their respective models - the lower-spec engine will do  0-62mph in 11.1 seconds, while the more powerful unit will achieve the same sprint time almost a second quicker.

Both powerplants are currently two-wheel drive but 4x4 versions will be made available half way through next year, Dacia says.

The new engines are only available in higher spec trims: the TCe 130 is in Comfort and Prestige trim, while the TCe 150 is only available in highest spec Prestige trim.

Excluding the engines from its lower models means Dacia is able to continue to offer its headline-grabbing sub-£10k price (£9,995) for its entry-level variant. Diesel models start from £13,695 for a Blue dCi 115 diesel engine unit.

Dacia says a new lighter aluminium engine block has been used in the new TCe engines, which includes new innovations such as ‘Bore Spray Coating’.  This technology, used on the inside of the cylinder, through improved management of the heat, allows better performance and increased engine response.

The new petrol engines now integrate a gasoline particulate filter (GPF), designed to reduce particle emissions.

The manufacturer says this new generation of petrol engine offers better performance than the outgoing TCe engines with an increase of 5 hp for the TCe 130 variant and 25 hp for the TCe 150, with the new TCe 150 engine being the most powerful engine ever offered on a Dacia.

The TCe 130 is available with a six-speed manual transmission and priced from £14,395 in Comfort trim, featuring 16-inch ‘Cyclade’ alloy wheels, rear parking camera and sensors, electric front and rear windows and MediaNav 7" touchscreen multimedia system, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, all as standard.

In Prestige specification, the TCe 130 is available from £15,695 and adds more goodies like new 17-inch ‘Diamond-cut’ alloy wheels, multi-view camera, blind spot warning, climate control and keyless entry.

The TCe 150 variant, also offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, is only available in top-of-the-range Prestige specification, priced from £16,295.

The all-new Duster range is also currently available with a SCe 115 petrol engine (priced from £9,995) and Blue dCi 115 diesel engine (priced from £13,695).

Pricing for the new TCe engines in the all-New Duster line-up start from £14,395. Orders are open now, with first  deliveries expected from March 2019.
