Skoda unveils UK price and spec for its revamped Fabia supermini

By Paul Connolly

Skoda has revealed the UK price and specification for its revamped Fabia model.

The popular supermini – which comes in hatchback and estate body styles - has received an extensive makeover for 2018.

Details were revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March; the makeover is fairly extensive with the Fabia receiving fresh new design elements and state-of-the-art technology including a new front with LED headlights.

The makeover gives the Fabia, currently in its third generation, a much stronger look.

It’s likely to boost sales even further; over 500,00 third generation models have been sold, adding to 3.5 million first and second generation sales.

The Fabia first appeared in showrooms back in 1999, as a successor to the little-remembered Skoda Felicia. The current, third generation model dates from 2015.

Just released are the UK price and spec for the latest version of the Fabia.

The range starts at £11,160 (RRP), with estate models costing between £800 and £1,200 more than standard cars.

You’ll recognise the newest addition to the Fabia family with its new front look: new LED daytime running lights will make the car more noticeable on the road.

The revised bonnet and grille combine to give the car a sleeker appearance, finished by the narrower headlights.

At the rear, the design of the rear bumper is refined with added reflectors increasing the car’s visibility - especially at night.

Adding further to doubts over the future of diesel, the engine range is now all petrol; all three-cylinder power units, to be precise.

Two MPI engines feature indirect injection and produce outputs of 60PS and 75PS respectively, while the two TSI engines are packed with advanced engineering, including turbocharging and direct petrol injection, enabling them to generate 95PS and 110PS. Both TSI engines are fitted with a petrol particulate filter.

The most powerful of the quartet of engines can be matched with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as an option.

LED daytime running lights are now standard across the range, while Front assist and a multifunction trip computer are included on all models for the first time.

Fabia SE trim models gain front fog lights and 15-inch Cygnus alloy wheels over the outgoing model, along with Radio Swing Plus and auto up/down function for the electric windows. Colour Edition models gain 16-inch Vigo alloy wheels in white, silver or black.

Customers opting for the SE L trim level get more equipment over the outgoing model.

All SE L models now feature Amundsen satellite navigation, Infotainment online (for one year), lighting in the front centre console and 16-inch Evora alloy wheels.

The sporty Monte Carlo model also gets new features including climate control air con, LED rear lights, rear electric windows and new seat upholstery.

The Monte Carlo package also includes a black front spoiler, black roof, black floor mats and carbon-effect dashboard trim.

A new range of options has also been introduced. Included for the first time are LED headlights (£960 RRP), 18-inch Vega alloy wheels (Monte Carlo Hatch only - £600 RRP) and Blind spot detection and rear traffic alert (£390 RRP).

The new Blind spot detection feature alerts the driver to the presence of vehicles in the blind spot or approaching rapidly from behind when driving on multi-lane highways.

The Rear Traffic Alert system monitors what is going on behind the vehicle and warns of a risk of collision when reversing.

The new Fabia models are available to order now, with first deliveries in September.
