Derry Girls: Writer Lisa McGee in running for Best Sit Com award

Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee has been shortlisted for yet another prestigious award.

The hit Channel 4 series is in the running to win Best TV Situation Comedy at the Writers' Guild of Great Britain awards.

Other contenders in the category are Inside No. 9 written by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith and Detectorists by Mackenzie Crook.

Derry native McGee has previously picked up accolades at the IFTA Gala TV Awards, Edinburgh TV Festival and Radio Times.

McGee's nostalgic series depicts the lives of a group of teenagers growing up in the Maiden City in the Nineties amid the Troubles.

A second series of the award-winning comedy is expected to go on air early in the New Year.

The Writers' Guild of Great Britain awards will be presented by writer and The Thick of It actor Joanna Scanlan on Monday, January 14 2019 at the Royal College of Physicians in central London.
