The Belfast premiere of new sporting epic The Keeper took place at the Dublin Road last night.

The film tells the incredible true story of a former German soldier and prisoner of war, Bert Trautmann (David Kross), who defied the odds to become the goalkeeper at Manchester City.

Several football grounds in Northern Ireland were used as filming locations, as they better matched the historical aesthetic required.

Dundela FC's Wilgar Park was used to portray St Helen's Football Club, while Cliftonville's Solitude Stadium was used for Stoke City Stadium.

Glentoran's The Oval doubled for the biopic's home ground of Manchester City Stadium.

Other filming locations included Belfast City Cemetery, Murlough Bay, Knutsford Drive off Cliftonville Road and Whitehead Train Station.

Attending last night's screening was Scottish acting great Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot, Gangs of New York, Outlander) who played Manchester City Manager Jock Thomson. Thomson was criticised in 1949 for signing the former German paratrooper.

Trautmann struggled for acceptance by many who dismissed him as the enemy before helping win the 1956 FA Cup Final.
