Adam Sandler to star in Pixels

Adam Sandler will star in new video game movie Pixels.

Jennifer Aniston is also in negotiations to play the female lead in the film about Eighties video game characters attacking New York City, The Wrap reported.

The heroes are thought to be video game experts who are recruited by the government to help deal with the threat.

Kevin James and Josh Gad are in early talks to co-star in the movie, which Adam will produce through his company Happy Madison.

Chris Columbus, whose work includes Home Alone, Mrs Doubtfire and two of the Harry Potter movies, is on board to direct the big budget action comedy for Sony.

Jennifer - who starred with Adam in Just Got With It - is said to be a fan of the script but there may be scheduling clashes with her new movie Mean Moms.

Pixels is an adaptation of writer-director Patrick Jean's critically acclaimed short film.

Tim Herlihy wrote the first draft of Pixels, but it has been rewritten by Tim Dowling, whose script enticed Adam and Chris to sign on.
