Angie joins shocked son Calum Best in Big Brother house

By Cate McCurry

Calum Best was left in shock last night after his mother turned up in the Celebrity Big Brother house.  Angie Best — former wife of late Northern Ireland footballing legend George Best — surprised Calum by joining the contestants.

It’s the second time that model and TV personality Calum has taken part in the reality TV show. He had a particularly nasty run-in with Perez Hilton in 2015, in which the American celebrity gossip columnist  used language pertaining to sexual assault.

As the 35-year-old went in, he said: “My surname comes with a legacy and I’m doing my best to do it justice.”

At that point, Calum was not aware his mother, Angie would be following him inside.

As his mum appeared, he screamed out: “Oh my God, it’s my mother.”

Angie said: “‘He’s going to have a heart attack God bless him, he’s going to be completely dismantled because mumma’s here.”

Angie, who was born and raised in Southend-on-Sea, went on to travel the world as a model.

A former Playboy Bunny, she married George in 1978.

Describing the moment the pair first met, she said: “It was love at first sight. It was meant to be so we could have beautiful Calum.”

The 64-year-old said she is looking forward to a break from the usual hustle and bustle, in particular getting away from ringing phones, and hanging out with her son instead.

But it sounds as if her housemates had better watch their language, as she said: “I don’t want to live with a loud, vulgar young girl whose only language is swear words.”

Calum, who said he likes “to be tested”, was once romantically linked to Paul Gascoigne’s step-daughter, Bianca Gascoigne, who is also in the house. He said of having a second go on CBB: “Last time was a very memorable experience that only really worked well for me and my mindset after I left, so why not try to do the same again?”

The latest series of the hit Channel 5 show has been dubbed All Stars and New Stars, as former Big Brother contestants are joined by other celebrities making their debut. Reality TV couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were the first celebrities to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house. The former Hills stars, dubbed “Speidi” by their fans, were followed by ex-Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan
