Celebrity Big Brother viewers took offence after Ann Widdecombe insisted she does not acknowledge housemate Courtney Act.
The former MP was talking to Big Brother in the Diary Room when Courtney, the drag queen alter ego of reality TV star Shane Jenek, came up.
She said she did not “acknowledge” Courtney, insisting: “Courtney’s isn’t real. Shane is.”
Fans of the Channel 5 show were fuming, saying Widdecombe was “disrespectful” and should “wash out her mouth”.
“ANN! Courtney IS real! She isn’t a part in a TV show, she’s a part of Shane!” said one angry viewer on Twitter.
“Ann being an ignorant buffoon shocker. Courtney is real – it’s not just a drag act and is a part of Shane’s gender identity,” said another.
Another snapped: “Courtney is real!!!! Wash your mouth out ann.”
One viewer said: “Ann, Courtney – as has already been explained to you – is an expression of Shane’s gender. Not an act. To compare her to a character being played by an actress shows 1stly that you’ve taken no notice of what you’ve been told & 2ndly is hugely disrespectful.”

However, Widdecombe also provided plenty of laughs in Sunday night’s programme, when she was challenged to take part in a silent disco task.
Viewers were in stitches as the 70-year-old bopped along to her music with glow sticks in her hands.
“I’m dying with laughter over here. Ann’s dancing is me out at the club after a few drinks on a Saturday night,” laughed one fan, while another said the segment was “peak 2018”.

Celebrity Big Brother continues on Channel 5.
