Aston Merrygold opening a dance studio after Strictly experience
Aston Merrygold said he is taking his Strictly elimination “on the chin”.
Aston Merrygold has announced he is hoping to open a dance studio following his Strictly Come Dancing exit.
The former JLS star was booted off the BBC show on Sunday. His elimination came as a huge surprise as Merrygold was thought to be a favourite for the Glitter Ball trophy.
But he told presenter Zoe Ball on spin-off show It Takes Two that he will keep on dancing.
“I have loved it and I’ve spoken to one of my close friends and my girlfriend Sarah and we said, do you know what, we’re just going to actually open a dance studio in London and just carry on teaching kids to dance,” he said.
Merrygold said he hoped to pass on all the “energy and wisdom” his professional dance partner Janette Manrara had given him.
“I’ve enjoyed it so much and now I’m going to give other people the opportunity to do the same thing,” he said. “That’s the plan.”
Merrygold said he was “gutted” to have been eliminated from the competition but admitted he “laughed” when judge Craig Revel Horwood served up the four that paved the way to his departure.
The star, whose partner Sarah Richards is expecting their baby, continued: “You have to take it on the chin.
“It’s such a brilliant show and as I’ve said from day one, if I ever was to leave I’m just happy I got to do it in the first place.”
