Boy who offered medal to Michael Conlan gets to meet his hero

By Sasha Brady

The five-year-old boy who offered his school medal to Michael Conlan when the boxer was denied an Olympic medal by some controversial judging, finally got to give it to him in person.

The Olympian appeared on the Late Late Show last night, along with the O'Donovan brothers and Annalise Murphy.

He spoke to Ryan about his move into professional boxing after his controversial Olympic defeat in his bantamweight quarter-final.

His exit from the games in Rio sparked outrage and one particular fan, Finn McManus, wrote the athlete a letter and offered him his own school medal as consolation.

He told Conlan that "he is a winner" regardless of what happened at the Olympics.

And the Belfast boxer took little Finn up on his offer and, in a show of true sportsmanship, presented the youngster with a pair of boxing gloves.

The pair met before the show went on air and posed for a photo together.

Finn looked chuffed to meet his hero and Conlan, no doubt, was delighted to meet his biggest (yet so tiny) fan.
