Bruno film legal case moved to NY

A Palestinian grocer portrayed as a terrorist in the movie Bruno has taken his defamation case from Washington DC to New York City.

Ayman Abu Aita's lawsuit against Bruno star Sacha Baron Cohen, David Letterman and others was filed on Tuesday in a Manhattan court. Washington Superior Court records show everyone involved agreed the case could be moved.

In the 2009 comedy, Baron Cohen plays an Austrian fashion journalist aiming to make peace in the Middle East. He interviews Abu Aita, who's labelled in a caption as a "member of the militant Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade".

Baron Cohen discussed Bruno's encounter with a "terrorist" on Letterman's Late Show on CBS.

The British comedian and Letterman say in court papers the statements are protected by free speech and other legal principles.
