Bullock, Hanks for post-9/11 drama?

Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks have been offered the lead roles in post-9/11 drama Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close.

Warner Bros are adapting the Jonathan Safran Foer novel, set in 2003, about a nine-year-old boy who finds a key in a vase that belongs to his father - who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks - and searches to find the lock that goes with it.

Oscar winners Sandra and Tom have been offered the lead roles Warners told Variety, but the studio is not yet in formal negotiations and the film has not had the green light for production.

Scott Rudin is producing the project, which he has been developing since 2005, when the novel was published. Eric Roth has adapted the book for the big screen and Stephen Daldry is attached to direct.

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close was one of the first American novels to incorporate the events of 9/11 into the plot.

Sandra is yet to commit to a role since her Oscar-winning performance in The Blind Side, although she has previously said she intended to take a break from work to focus on her personal life. She recently adopted a baby son, Louis.

Tom will next be seen opposite Julia Roberts in comedy-drama Larry Crowne, which he also directed and produced.
