Nicolas Cage is to be honoured for his acting work in Italy

Nicolas Cage is set to receive the top honour at an Italian film festival.

The Oscar-winning actor will be presented with the Ischia Legend award at this year's Ischia Global Film and Music Festival alongside winners Samuel L Jackson and film producer Arnon Milchan.

The 49-year-old, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of an alcoholic screenwriter who lost his will to live in the 1995 romantic drama Leaving Las Vegas, was praised by festival founder Pascal Vicedomini for his "daring performances and fearless choice of roles."

Nicolas, who will be presented with his prize at a gala ceremony on July 19, will also attend the Italian premiere of his new film The Frozen Ground, alongside co-star Vanessa Hudgens and producer Curtis James Jackson III aka rapper 50 Cent.

Samuel will be presented with his award at the festival's opening night gala on July 14.

"After spending the 1980s playing a series of drug addict and character parts, Samuel L Jackson emerged in the 1990s as one of the busiest and well-respected actors in Hollywood. Work on a number of projects, both high-profile and low-key, has given him ample opportunity to display an ability marked by both remarkable versatility and smooth intelligence," said Pascal.

Trudie Styler is an honorary president, while director Paul Haggis is on the executive board of the festival, which is now in its 11th year and will be held from July 14 to 21.
