Cara Delevingne and other British stars shine at the Met Gala
Forget about Kim Kardashian West and Rihanna – the Brits did a fantastic job at the ball.
British stars gave their international counterparts a run for their money on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute benefit gala in New York on Monday.
Leading the pack of home-grown talent wearing their finest outfits at the star-studded occasion were the likes of actors Matt Smith and Lily James, model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne and James Corden and his wife Julia Carey.
The high-fashion event, known as the Met Gala, sees A-listers from all industries wearing bold designs to match each theme, which this year was The Art of the In-Between in honour of Comme des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo.
Former Doctor Who star Matt and ex-Downton Abbey actress Lily, who are in a relationship, put on a tactile display as they walked the red carpet together.
Lily opted for a corseted white Burberry gown with a full-length skirt teamed with a thick black choker.
Cara caught the eye as she painted her bald head – newly-shaved for a film role – silver, covering her scalp with small gems.
Her look matched her futuristic outfit, a striking printed silver Chanel blazer and matching trousers pulled together with a chunky metallic belt.
Chat show host James, who lives and works in the US, wore a tuxedo while his wife dazzled in a glittering gold gown with floral embellishments.
Line Of Duty star Thandie Newton made her first public appearance following the tense finale of the BBC crime series, stealing attention in a scarlet dress with a daring ruched side detail and thigh-high split.
She teamed the eye-catching garment with a large floral headpiece and statement gold earrings.
Matt’s The Crown co-star Claire Foy sported an off-shoulder floral Erdem gown, while singer and TV star Rita Ora opted for an altogether more daring look with a red satin fishtail gown with a statement bow on one shoulder by Marchesa.
Star Wars star Daisy Ridley impressed fashion fans with her black and white floral Oscar de la Renta gown with a train.
Actress Lily Collins, the daughter of singer Phil Collins, donned a bold black flapper-style wig and large gown with an ostentatious pale pink skirt.
Other Britons at the Met Gala included Game Of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, The Theory of Everything star Felicity Jones and supermodels Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn.
