Carrey felt affinity with penguins

Jim Carrey has spoken about feeling "odd and out of place" in real life

The 49-year-old funnyman revealed how he felt quite an affinity to his penguin co-stars at the Hollywood premiere of his new film Mr Popper's Penguins.

"There's just an undeniable energy about them that's pure and spontaneous and they're oddballs of nature," Jim explained.

"They don't really belong in water or on land, they don't fly, what do they do? They're kind of odd and out of place and that's how I feel a lot of the time but we make the best of it."

The film, based on the children's book of the same name, sees Jim play Mr Popper, a divorced driven businessman who inherits six penguins that turn his life upside-down

"It was the soul of it," Jim explained. "Frankly I had people in my camp going 'Really? You want to do a penguin movie?' but I love penguins, what could I do? I gotta follow that spirit!"
