Castle Ward to reel in film fans

A National Trust-owned stately home is to become a drive-in movie theatre.

Castle Ward, Co Down, on Strangford Lough, more usually known for opera and classical music events, will show films for three weekends in the spring.

The front lawn will become a car park with the movies shown on a big screen with the castle as a backdrop. The films are aimed at a family audience, with the likes of Monsters Inc, Shrek and Forrest Gump to be shown over the first weekend, Friday, March 16. Two other weekends in May will screen films such as Spider-Man, Superman, Toy Story and Armageddon.

The National Trust is hoping people will come down to explore the property before staying on to take in the drive-in movie experience.

Typical drive-in movie food such as burgers, hot dogs and milkshakes will also be available, with entrance priced at £12 per car.
