Christmas reveal for Cowan's Mrs Brown's Boys replacement

Rory Cowan's replacement on Mrs Brown's Boys will be revealed during the show's Christmas Day special.

A trailer for the festive episode sees the family gather around Rory Brown, who has seemingly decided to undergo plastic surgery - allowing for the new actor to be revealed.

The plotline comes after Cowan decided to quit his role in the hit comedy after 26 years.

Speaking about the new actor to embody Rory, creator and Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll told RTÉ Radio 1: "The reveal is very good.

"And what I love about this episode is that everybody goes, 'There's no change'.

"Except Agnes (Brown), who goes, 'It's not Rory!'"

He also hinted the actor replacing Cowan is "much more soft-spoken than Rory" but he's "just as camp".

Cowan announced he would be leaving O'Carroll's company in July, but insisted his decision to quit was "amicable".

He told the Irish Mirror: "I got tired of it, I haven't been happy for the last two years working there."

"There was no row with Brendan, there was no dispute over money or anything, in fact quite the opposite, I got so well paid that it enabled me to be able to leave, I didn't need to stay."

In a statement, O'Carroll said of his former co-star: "To all of us it feels like Ronaldo leaving Man United. But Ronaldo went on to amazing success which I know Rory will too.

"I can't even quantify the contribution Rory has made to our success and the wellbeing of me and my family, not just on screen or stage but way before that as a friend and a driving force in getting us here. He's a legend."

Since Cowan left Mrs Brown's Boy's, actor Pat "Pepsi" Shields took on the role of Rory Brown for a number of live shows.
