Clooney and wrestler on red carpet

Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney has shown off his latest love on the red carpet.

The Oscar-winning star, 50, walked hand-in-hand with former wrestler Stacy Keibler as they arrived for the UK premiere of his new film The Descendants, the centrepiece gala at the BFI London Film Festival.

His co-star Shailene Woodley, dressed in Dior, director Alexander Payne, wearing a blue suit, and producer Jim Burke also attended the premiere in London's West End.

"The director was the first reason, then the screenplay and the chance to wear Hawaiian shirts with really high pulled-up khakis was the third reason," he said about why he signed up for the film.

He joked: "I learnt not to wear a bright blue suit like the director, and all those Hawaiian shirts."

The emotional drama, which Clooney describes as a "coming-of-age story for a 50-year-old man", stars the actor-director as father-of-two Matt King, who tries to reconnect with his daughters after his wife falls into a coma.

Woodley, who plays his elder daughter, revealed her screen father was "generous" and "down-to-earth".

Payne said Clooney was the ideal leading man.

"I had heard that George is a director's dream and he really is. He really is what you think he might be," said the director.

The Descendants opens in cinemas nationwide in January 2012.
