Clooney film to close New York fest
George Clooney has a busy autumn of jet-setting ahead of him.
The Hollywood star is already set to head to Toronto for the premiere of his new film The Ides Of March, and is set to fly into New York where The Descendants, which he also stars in, will close the New York Film Festival.
The festival's main slate consists of 27 feature films and the return of On Cinema, featuring an in-depth conversation with The Descendants' director Alexander Payne.
"In many of the films in this year's festival, characters pass from recognition of a problem or situation to actual resistance," said Richard Pena, programme director of the Film Society of Lincoln Centre.
"This confrontational attitude is perhaps a sign of our increasingly polarised times," he added.
Roman Polanski's Carnage will open the festival, while David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In and My Week With Marilyn - starring Brooklyn-based actress Michelle Williams - feature over the fortnight.
The New York Film Festival, now in its 49th year, runs from September 30 to October 16.
