Clooney for Golden Globes award

George Clooney has been chosen to get a special award at the Golden Globes to recognise his outstanding contribution to film.

The Gravity star will receive the prestigious Cecil B DeMille Award at next year's TV and film ceremony, according to E!.

President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Theo Kingma said: "The HFPA is honoured to bestow the Cecil B DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera."

George has won four Golden Globes in different categories to date and is also being recognised for his humanitarian work, visiting Darfur to film Journey To Darfur, a documentary about the drought, and being named a UN Messenger of Peace in 2008.

Recent winners of the Cecil B DeMille Award have included Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Warren Beatty, Anthony Hopkins, Robin Williams, Michael Douglas, Gene Hackman, Harrison Ford, Al Pacino and Barbra Streisand.

The 2015 Golden Globes are due to be aired live on NBC in the US on January 11, 2015.
