Coppola to make Fairyland film
Sofia Coppola is set to make a big screen version of the novel Fairyland.
The Bling Ring director will produce the film adaptation of Alysia Abbott's Fairyland: A Memoir Of My Father, reported Deadline.
She will also co-write the screenplay with Andrew Durham.
The book is "a coming of age story set against San Francisco's vibrant cultural scene in the 1970s and 80s, both before and after the Aids epidemic, a crisis that would later claim the life of Abbott's father, Steve Abbott, a widowed poet and gay activist".
Sofia, 42, said she is a huge fan of the story.
"I think it will make an engaging and touching movie on a subject I've never seen before," she said.
Alysia said she was "delighted" her novel would be getting the big screen treatment, adding: "Sofia's understanding of the feminine perspective and the artistic vision that she shares with Andrew Durham make them ideal partners to make this movie. I could not be happier."
