Marion Cotillard is to star in post-war drama Mal De Pierres.
The Oscar-winning La Vie En Rose star has signed up for the big screen adaptation of Milena Agus's bestselling book, reported Variety.
The period romance, to be directed by Nicole Garcia, is set after World War Two and spans 20 years.
It follows a woman, the role French actress Marion will play, who is trapped in a loveless marriage and falls for another man.
Producer Alain Attal said: "It's a passion project for both Nicole and us. It's a very romantic and intense story about a woman whose quest for absolute love is the essence of life, her 'raison d'etre'."
Marion's other upcoming projects include French language film Two Days, One Night and animated fantasy The Little Prince.
