Cuaron: Fantastic Beasts not for me

Alfonso Cuaron has dismissed rumours he will direct the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

The Oscar-winning Gravity filmmaker, who previously directed the third Harry Potter film, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, said he has no plans to get involved in Warner Bros' big-screen adaptation of JK Rowling's Harry Potter prequel.

He told Spanish news agency EFE: "[Directing Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban] was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire JK Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don't attract me.

"I'm coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit," he added.

David Heyman, who produced all eight films in the Harry Potter franchise, will produce the film, inspired by JK's 2001 fictitious wizard textbook of the same name and will be about its fictional author, a "magizoologist" named Newt Scamander.

The film - which is set before the adventures of boy wizard Harry and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the franchise - will be released in US cinemas on November 18, 2016.
