Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly in early talks to play British explorer Percy Fawcett in The Lost City Of Z.
The Sherlock star is said to be in negotiations to star in the big-screen adaptation of David Grann's book, which tells the story of the intrepid adventurer who went into the Amazon jungle and never returned, reported Deadline.
Journalist David looks at the stories of his quest for Z - a mythical lost city - and tries to unravel the mystery of his disappearance.
Sherlock actor Benedict, who starred in JJ Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, recently denied that he will be in Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII.
His spokesman told the New York Daily News: "There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars. I think the rumours are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek."
The 37-year-old will attend the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premieres of his films - 12 Years A Slave, The Fifth Estate and August: Osage County.
He will also be heard as the voice of Smaug in Peter Jackson's Hobbit films, and is rumoured to star as Enigma codebreaker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.
