David Duchovny sinking into Phantom

David Duchovny has signed up to star in submarine thriller Phantom.

The Californication star has joined Ed Harris, William Fichtner and Natascha McElhone in the indie film set on a Soviet submarine during the Cold War, Variety reports.

David will play the leader of the Soviet special forces team, with a secret mission while on board the sub, and is replacing Andy Garcia in the role.

The film will be shot in Long Beach, California, in October, by Lonely Hearts' Todd Robinson, who will direct from his own script.

The X Files star recently finished filming the fifth series of Californication. Earlier this year he made indie movie Goats, with Vera Farmiga, Ty Burrell, Keri Russell and Minnie Driver.
