Del Toro talks Pacific Rim monster

Guillermo del Toro says fans can expect "giant monsters" from his next project, Pacific Rim.

The Pan's Labyrinth director was tight-lipped on the plot of the new film, which hasn't started filming yet, but did open up on the recent casting of British actor Idris Elba.

"Giant monsters. Giant. And Idris Elba. What else is there?" he joked at the Los Angeles premiere of Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, which he wrote and produced.

"I try to only work with actors I'm a huge fan of," he revealed. "In order to really have fun on the set and learn, you've got to work with people that challenge you, but that you admire."

Del Toro was joined on the red carpet by the star of Hellboy, Ron Perlman, as well as by Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark's leading ladies Bailee Madison and Katie Holmes, who he described as "fantastic".

He raved about Katie: "She brings a fantastic degree of acting craft, an incredible level of emotion, real authenticity."
