Dolly and Latifah in Joyful Noise
Dolly Parton is to star alongside Queen Latifah in new musical comedy Joyful Noise.
The 64-year-old country singer - star of Nine To Five and The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas - will return to the big screen for the movie about two women who join forces to prevent a small-town gospel choir from shutting down.
Queen Latifah will play the mother of two teens who is put in charge of the Pacashau Gospel Choir after the death of its choir director, while Dolly will play the choir director's widow, who hopes to take over her late husband's job, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Todd Graff - writer and director of 2003's teen musical Camp and last year's battle-of-the-bands movie Bandslam - is writing and directing the musical production.
Singer, rapper and actress Queen Latifah was nominated for an Oscar for her role as jailer Matron 'Mama' Morton in musical Chicago.
Steel Magnolias star Dolly hasn't made a major feature since 1992's Straight Talk.
