Durand plays for Mortal Instruments

Kevin Durand is rumoured to be joining the Mortal Instruments film.

The Canadian actor, who currently stars in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis alongside Robert Pattinson, is tipped to be taking a villainous role in the big-screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's first novel of the series, reported Variety.

Both Kevin and fellow Canadian, wrestler-turned-actor Robert Maillet, are said to have been cast as henchmen Pangborn and Blackwell, who report to the film's main baddie Valentine.

Lily Collins is already on board as a young woman who discovers she is the descendant of a "secret cadre of half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons", while Harry Potter actor Jaime Campbell Bower is the lead half-angel warrior.

The Karate Kid's Harold Zwart will direct the film version, in time for a release in August 2013.

Kevin - who has appeared in Austin Powers: The Spy Who S****ed Me, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Robin Hood - will next be seen in Resident Evil: Retribution alongside Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez.
