Eamonn Holmes dazzles viewers in white suit on This Morning

He's perhaps an unlikely style icon - but Eamonn Holmes caused a social media storm this morning when he dazzled viewers by donning an all white suit to present This Morning.

The Belfast-born presenter who hosts the hit morning programme alongside his wife Ruth Langsford whipped viewers up into a frenzy when he posted a photo of himself in the bright white suit before going on air.

He said: "Right I've bought it and I have to find a day to wear is that day! Deep breath."

And despite the usual variety of guests and topical chat on the show - it seemed viewers were fixated with Eamonn's striking attire.

And as is par for the course on social media he was soon subject to both praise and scrutiny.

The comparisons came thick and fast with Eamonn being likened to everyone from John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever to KFC's Colonel Sanders.

One viewer wrote: “Is Eamonn heading out to Bingo in Butlins later by any chance?"

Another joked that the devoted Manchester United fan's suit gave a nod to that of Liverpool in the 1996 FA Cup where the players turned up in Emporio Armani cream-coloured suits.

However not everyone was chastising his wardrobe choice as TV fashion guru Gok Wan defended Eamonn suggesting those who didn't like him should stay quiet.

And Gok Wan wasn't the only one in Eamonn's corner as an army of ladies were quick to remark on his choice of dress.

One said: "Look amazing as always!"

Another posted: "And boy do you look good in it" - while one social media user compared him to John Travolta who infamously wore a white suit in  Saturday Night Fever, adding, "You look so much better in yours".

But perhaps most importantly, Eamonn won the support of his wife - who despite teasing him on the programme tweeted: "I know I teased him but really I thought my hubby Eamonn looked lovely in his white linen suit...very continental!"

And even the normally scathing panel on Loose Women gave their nod of approval as they agreed saying: "We said the very same thing in the Loose client room this morning.  Very dapper indeed."

But praise or no praise Eamonn didn't appear deterred as he even re-tweeted some of the comments about his outfit - including one which compared him to the face of KFC,  Colonel Sanders - whose iconic white suit adorns the fast food packaging.

And he made sure he had the last word as he proudly posted another picture of himself in the suit stating his weekend began now.
