Eamonn Holmes 'proud and nervous' as Ruth Langsford joins Strictly Come Dancing line-up
Belfast presenter Eamonn Holmes said he was proud and nervous for his wife.
This Morning star Ruth Langsford will appear in this year's Strictly Come Dancing line-up, it has been confirmed.
The TV presenter made the announcement during Wednesday's This Morning broadcast after emerging from behind one of three glittery doors, declaring: "It's me!"
Her husband and co-star, Belfast presenter Eamonn Holmes, feigned surprise, saying: "What sort of marriage is this?"
Langsford replied: "Did I not mention it? It's definitely me!"
She added: "I have dreamt about doing Strictly for so long, I can't quite believe my dream has come true!
"The sum of my dance experience is throwing a few shapes at a party, I've never had a dance lesson in my life.
"Without doubt it will be the scariest yet most exciting thing I've ever done.
Eamonn joked his wife will be "an inspiration to older women around the country," telling former Strictly professional Karen Hardy: "Here is my worry, I think Strictly is fine for people between jobs with a lot of time on their hands. She is flat out at the minute."
He jokingly added: "She's got a lot of work and she has family responsibilities which I think may be neglected, I am going to have to worry about who and what I'm coming home to at night, what is going to be on the table and what is in the fridge. Where is she going to find the time?"
Karen responded: "Eamonn, you're going to be stepping up, doing the washing.
"The practice is a minimum four hours a day and if you can up it to eight that is what you want, as she gets near the final that goes from about five to six days a week to seven days a week."
Eamonn replied: "I am so proud and I think you will be an inspiration for older women everywhere around the country, instead of hot flushes, hot moves."
Following the announcement, Eamonn posted on Twitter: "My lovely (Ruth) is taking to the dancefloor .
"Wish her well. I'm so proud....but nervous for her."
Langsford is the third contestant to be announced following singer Mollie King and actor Davood Ghadami.
