Elba for action movie Bastille Day
Idris Elba is to play an American action hero working in Paris in new thriller Bastille Day.
The Luther star will play a US operative sent to interrogate a young American boy with a view to making him "disappear" in order to avoid embarrassment to the US government, after the boy is named as the prime suspect to an attack on the Paris metro.
After several more attacks, he realises the boy is innocent and may be the only link to the true identity of the criminal responsible, Variety reported.
Bastille Day has been produced by Vendome Pictures and Anonymous Content, has been written by up-and-coming crime writer Andrew Baldwin.
A director has not yet been signed up for the project.
This year Idris has appeared on the big screen in Prometheus, Pacific Rim and Thor: The Dark World.
He will next be seen as Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
