Elgort tunes up for pianist Cliburn
Ansel Elgort is to show off his piano-playing skills as Van Cliburn in an upcoming biopic.
The Fault In Our Stars actor has signed up to play the late American pianist in the biographical drama, which would focus on his formative years after he won the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow, at the height of the Cold War in 1958.
Andrew Stern is writing the script for Van Cliburn, which is based on Howard Reich's book, for t he film, which will be produced by Fault In Our Stars' Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, reported Deadline.
Cliburn, who emerged out of nowhere to win the prestigious title, had a very unorthodox instinctive style. He was a hit amongst Russian audiences, and played for royalty, US Presidents and heads of state before deciding to stop performing in public in 1978. He died of bone cancer in 2013, aged 78.
Ansel, who played cancer sufferer Gus Waters in The Fault In Our Stars and Caleb Prior in Divergent, started as a dancer and can play the piano. He is also a DJ and producer of electronic dance music as Ansolo.
The 20-year-old has reunited with Shailene Woodley for the Divergent sequel, Insurgent, and will also star in Jason Reitman's Men, Women And Children opposite Emma Thompson, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Garner.
