Evans: I'm no fan of vampire films

Luke Evans has revealed he doesn't enjoy watching vampire films, despite starring in one himself.

The Hobbit star plays Vlad III Țepeș, the man who becomes Dracula, in Gary Shore's Dracula Untold, an origins story based on Bram Stoker's novel.

"To be honest with you, vampire films aren't really my cup of tea," he told Total Film. "But I don't feel like I'm in a quintessential vampire film, because we're telling a different story, which gives it a different entity."

The 35-year-old actor continued: "I certainly didn't want to make another movie that's 'just another Dracula film'. That's why I think the title's appropriate - it's the untold story of the beginnings of one of the most famous vampires who's ever been written about.

"What's most exciting about this film is watching the man change and seeing the torment that he's in," he added.

Luke also said he savoured the taste of blood during the blood-sucking scenes.

"It's a mixture of beetroot and cherry juice, and it's actually quite flavoursome. I met a friend of mine and he asked me what I'd been doing that day. I said, 'I've drunk blood all day in a tent, and it was dripping down my torso'," he joked.

Dracula Untold, which also stars Dominic Cooper and Sarah Gadon, is released in cinemas on October 3.
