Evans: More fights in Capt America

Chris Evans has revealed that there will be more hand-to-hand combat in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The US actor, who will reprise his role as Steve Rogers and his superhero alter-ego in the upcoming sequel, was joined by co-stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as they previewed footage at Disney's D23 Expo.

"We've certainly stepped the action up a bit so hopefully, it'll be a great movie. The fight sequences have to be brutal and physical - it's not just about things blowing up and people flying, although we do have that. It's much more about fist meeting faces," he teased.

Chris admitted his character is "struggling" to fare in the modern world in the follow-up to the 2011 Marvel movie.

"It's not so much about tech shock - he's not marvelled at the internet and cellphones. It's more about him trying to find his way through the current political climate and society," he explained.

"The Captain just wants to be a good guy and do what's right, and it's harder for him in modern-day to figure out what is wrong and right, and the definition of good and bad."

Anthony Mackie - who's back as Sam Wilson/Falcon - said filming the sequel, directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, was quite challenging.

"It was very difficult shooting it because it was so much action. The Russo brothers had us do the majority of our own stunts and our own fights, so you'd be surprised at how dark the movie is," he admitted.

Sebastian Stan, who returns as Steve's best friend The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes, said: "I developed a whole new appreciation for action stars - it's really technical. There's a lot of brutal fighting but it's exciting."

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released in 2014.
