Fanning: I love Sleeping Beauty
Elle Fanning has revealed that Sleeping Beauty's Princess Aurora was always her favourite childhood character.
The 16-year-old, who portrays the princess in Disney's Maleficent, admitted that is why the role was a dream come true.
"She's very graceful and I feel like she's one of the most caring and loving princesses that there is," she said.
Elle rewatched the original 1959 film to prepare for her role.
"I watched it so many times before but I watched it right before we started filming," she said. "She holds herself a certain way - her hand gestures and her posture - and I wanted to bring that to my Sleeping Beauty because that's what I love about her."
The actress, the younger sister of Dakota, is glad she got to demonstrate a feistier aspect of Aurora's personality in Maleficent, which stars Angelina Jolie as the evil sorceress.
"It's nice in our movie she's not just a delicate princess. She has some strength to her and gets to show some power, which is good. You get to see that side," she explained.
She added: "The questions that people have when they watch the original will be answered in this film. You get to see a back-story of Maleficent and why is she so angry, which leads up to her cursing a baby. Something bad has to have happened for her to be so evil."
:: Maleficent opens in cinemas on May 28.
